Carpet Cleaning, Deep Extraction, Stain Removal, and Emergency Flood Response

There are two very different reasons people search for carpet cleaning.
A tenancy ending, a room that needs refreshing, a stubborn stain that needs professional attention.
A pipe has burst, a washing machine has flooded, and a wet carpet is sitting there right now.

EC247 handles both professional deep carpet cleaning for planned work, and 24/7 emergency flooded carpet extraction when time is against you.

What Professional Carpet Cleaning Involves

Vacuuming removes what sits on top of a carpet. It does not address the fine grit ground into the pile base which damages fibres over time, the allergens embedded deep in the structure, the soiling in high-traffic lanes, or the staining that has bonded with the carpet backing.

Hot water extraction is the method recommended by most UK carpet manufacturers and the standard used throughout the professional cleaning industry which injects a heated cleaning solution under pressure into the full depth of the carpet pile, then immediately extracts it along with the loosened dirt, residue, and allergens.

Why a Flooded Carpet Cannot Wait

When a carpet floods, the clock starts immediately.
Within 24 to 48 hours in typical UK conditions, the combination of saturated carpet and warm ambient air creates ideal conditions for mould colonisation.
Once mould is established in the underlay, the carpet is almost always beyond saving and requires removal.

Acting within the first few hours dramatically increases the chance of a full recovery without replacement.

Not All Flood Water Is the Same

Category 1 – Clean water from a burst supply pipe or appliance leak. The lowest risk. Extraction and drying are the priorities.

Category 2 – Grey water from dishwasher or washing machine overflow. Contains mild contaminants like chemical and biological requiring sanitisation alongside drying.

Category 3 – Black water from sewage backup, external flooding, or toilet overflow. A genuine health hazard requiring COSHH-compliant handling, hospital-grade decontamination, and assessment for material removal. In most Category 3 cases, carpet and underlay must be removed rather than cleaned in place.
We assess the water category on arrival and proceed accordingly.
NB: not all flooded carpets can be saved, and we will tell you honestly on arrival rather than proceed with work that will not be effective.

When to Book a Carpet Clean

End of tenancy – restoring carpet to a pre-tenancy standard for inventory purposes

Pre-tenancy – bringing a property up to the standard a new tenant expects

Stain removal – wine, coffee, pet accidents, ink, food, grease, or ground-in dirt

After renovation or building work – removing construction dust embedded in the pile

General refresh – extending carpet life and improving indoor air quality

Pet odour treatment – neutralising persistent pet smells from the underlay up

Category 1 – Standard Carpets Cleaning Process

Assessment and honest stain evaluation
We inspect the carpet before beginning, identify the fibre type, and assess each stain. Where a stain is unlikely to be fully removed — due to age, the original substance, or prior DIY treatment — we tell you before we start. We do not quote for miracles we cannot deliver.

Pre-treatment of stains and traffic lanes
Targeted pre-treatment solutions are applied to stained areas and high-traffic zones and allowed to work before the main clean begins.

Hot water extraction
Industrial extraction equipment injects cleaning solution and immediately extracts it along with the loosened contaminant. This differs from rented consumer machines in power, water temperature, and extraction force.

Spot treatment of remaining marks
Any staining that requires targeted attention after the main pass receives specific treatment with appropriate specialist solutions.

Controlled drying
Air movement is applied to minimise drying time. Most domestic carpets are walkable within 4 to 6 hours and fully dry within 8 to 12 hours.

Category 2 – Flooded Carpets Cleaning Process

Emergency response – We answer 24 hours a day and attend as quickly as possible speed matters here. Call 0203 951 4864 immediately.

Water category assessment – We identify the source and contamination level of the water before beginning extraction.

Industrial extraction – High-powered extraction equipment removes water from the full depth of the carpet and underlay — including the subfloor layer that domestic equipment cannot reach.

Underlay assessment – We lift the carpet to inspect the underlay. Saturated underlay holds water like a sponge and must often be replaced even when the carpet itself can be saved.

Structural drying – Industrial air movers and dehumidifiers run until moisture meter readings confirm the full carpet system and subfloor have returned to safe moisture levels.

Antimicrobial treatment – Treatment is applied to prevent mould growth in the dried carpet and subfloor — particularly important in Category 2 and 3 situations.

TOP MOST ASKED QUESTIONS

How long does carpet cleaning take to dry?
Typically 4 to 8 hours for a standard deep clean with ventilation. Allow longer for thick pile or heavy soiling. We apply controlled drying techniques to minimise this.

Will you guarantee full stain removal?
We Can’t, and any company that does is making a promise they cannot reliably keep. Stain removal depends on the substance, how long it has been there, and what has already been tried. We assess honestly before we start and only take on stains where we genuinely believe we can make a meaningful difference.

My carpet flooded overnight – is it too late?
Possibly not. The 24 to 48 hour window is a guideline, not a cut-off. Call immediately and we will assess when we arrive. The sooner extraction starts, the better the outcome.

Should I try to dry the carpet myself before you arrive?
Do not use a domestic fan heater or hair dryer, these can shrink certain carpet types and do not extract water from below the surface. Light ventilation by opening windows is fine. If you have access to a wet-dry vacuum, using it carefully on the surface can reduce visible standing water while you wait.
Can flooded carpet ever be fully restored?
Yes, if the water was clean or grey water, extraction was prompt, and the underlay was not completely saturated. Category 3 black water usually requires carpet removal regardless of timing.

Do you clean commercial carpets?
Yes, offices, hotels, restaurants, and retail spaces. We schedule around trading hours on request.
