Allergy cleaning in Greenwich
An allergy clean is a thorough deep clean focused on removing the most common indoor allergy triggers, such as dust mites, pet dander, pollen and mould, from every level of a room, including mattresses, carpets, soft furnishings and the places ordinary cleaning misses.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich mixes new, well-sealed apartment blocks on Greenwich Peninsula, at the Royal Arsenal in Woolwich and in Kidbrooke with older family houses in Eltham, Charlton, Blackheath and Plumstead. New flats are often airtight and rely on mechanical ventilation, so dust collects on vents and grilles, while older houses have carpets, curtains and soft furnishings that hold dust mites and pet dander.
A cleaning service, not a medical treatment
Cleaning can reduce allergens in your home, but it doesn’t replace medical care. If you or your child has asthma or severe allergies, keep following your GP’s or asthma nurse’s advice.
The allergy triggers we target
Dust mites
Tiny creatures that live in mattresses, pillows, carpets, sofas and soft toys. Their droppings are one of the most common indoor allergy triggers.
What we do: Vacuum mattresses, carpets and upholstery with a HEPA-filter vacuum, and damp-wipe surfaces so dust isn’t stirred into the air.
Pet dander
Tiny flakes of skin from cats, dogs and other pets. It’s light and sticky, so it settles on carpets, sofas, walls and curtains, and lingers.
What we do: Remove pet hair and dander from carpets, upholstery, skirting, walls, stairs and under furniture.
Pollen
Brought indoors on clothes, hair, pets and through open windows, mainly in spring and summer.
What we do: Clean window sills, frames, curtains, soft furnishings and entrances where pollen settles.
Mould
Grows where there’s damp and condensation, such as bathrooms, window frames, cold walls and behind furniture, and releases spores into the air.
What we do: Clean visible surface mould from washable surfaces, and tell you where damp needs fixing.
Homes we help in Greenwich
New-build apartments
Dust removed from vent grilles, extractor fans, skirting and hard-to-reach surfaces in sealed modern flats.
Older family houses
Carpets, curtains, mattresses and sofas cleaned to reduce dust mites and pet dander.
Rented homes
Allergy cleans before a new tenancy, for tenants, landlords and letting agents.
Homes after building work
Fine dust cleared from every level after renovation or decorating.
New-build flats and ventilation systems
Many new flats use mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, which brings in filtered air. If its filters aren’t changed, it can circulate dust. We clean the grilles, vents and surrounding surfaces, but the filters themselves should be changed by your building management or a ventilation engineer, so ask them when they were last done.
What our allergy clean includes
- High and low dusting: tops of wardrobes, door frames, picture rails, light fittings, skirting boards and behind radiators.
- HEPA-filter vacuuming: carpets, rugs, mattresses, sofas, curtains and under beds and furniture, so dust isn’t blown back into the room.
- Damp-wiping hard surfaces: so dust is picked up, not spread around.
- Carpet and upholstery deep cleaning: where needed, to remove dust, dander and allergens from deep in the fibres.
- Vents, grilles and extractor fans: dust removed from the covers and surrounding surfaces.
- Surface mould: cleaned from washable surfaces such as tiles, sealed paint, window frames and sills.
- Fragrance-free products: on request, for anyone sensitive to scents or chemicals.
We work from the top of each room down, so dust falls onto surfaces we haven’t cleaned yet, not ones we have.

Keeping allergens down after the clean
These steps, based on NHS advice on house dust mites, help keep the benefit going between cleans:
| Area | What helps |
|---|---|
| Bedding | Wash sheets and pillowcases at 60°C, which kills dust mites. Cooler washes only partly do. |
| Dusting | Damp-dust each room at least once a week, so dust is picked up, not spread. |
| Vacuuming | Use a vacuum with a HEPA filter, and if possible have someone without the allergy do it. |
| Air and humidity | Ventilate rooms and use extractor fans. If needed, a dehumidifier can keep humidity at 30 to 50%. |
| Soft toys | Keep bedside soft toys to a minimum. Wash them hot, or freeze them for 12 hours if they can’t be washed. |
| Pets | Keep pets out of bedrooms. |

What is an allergy clean?
An allergy clean is a thorough deep clean focused on removing common indoor allergy triggers, such as dust mites, pet dander, pollen and mould, from every level of a room, including mattresses, carpets, soft furnishings and hard-to-reach surfaces.
Will an allergy clean cure my allergies or asthma?
No. Cleaning reduces the allergens in your home, but it isn’t a medical treatment. Keep following your GP’s or asthma nurse’s advice, and keep taking any medication you’ve been prescribed.
Should the person with allergies stay out during the clean?
We recommend it. Cleaning can disturb dust before it’s removed, so it’s best if anyone with allergies or asthma is out during the clean and for a short while afterwards.
Do you use fragrance-free products?
Yes, on request. Tell us about any sensitivities to scents or chemicals when you book, and we’ll plan the products around them.
Do you clean ventilation grilles and extractor fans?
Yes. We clean the grilles, vents, extractor fan covers and the surfaces around them. The filters inside a mechanical ventilation system should be changed by your building management or a ventilation engineer.
How often should I have an allergy clean?
It depends on the home and the allergies. Many people book a deep allergy clean once, then keep up with weekly damp dusting and vacuuming, with another deep clean each season or before hay fever starts.
How much does it cost?
We give you a fixed price in writing after finding out about the home, the rooms and what’s needed. The quote is free.
